Top 5 Reasons To Travel to Iceland – Iceland Review
Iceland is one of the travel destinations I love to read about and write an Iceland Review. I especially recommend you travel to Iceland. It is an experience you will never forget. I had the opportunity to spend a good amount of time in Norway when I was in the military. It was truly breath taking… In more than one way. Yes it did get rather cold there certain times of the year. However the pure beauty of the place is indescribable. I can only imagine Iceland being much like that, but possibly better since it is an island.
Iceland is especially known for its serene, pure landscapes and glaciers. Plus the mountains, volcanoes, and striking Northern Lights were most noteworthy. Also you can’t miss out on the succulent cuisine, biodiversity and adventurous tours. It is a place where there is “midnight sun”. Imagine having 20-hour long nights, and where the weather is known to change within as short a time span as five minutes. Iceland is most noteworthy a place where the paradox of nature manifests beautifully. Once you get there, there will be numerous activities that you can do at one time and so choosing places to visit will get difficult.
Here are the top 5 reasons to visit Iceland and make your vacation memorable.
Aurora Borealis Iceland Review
Watching the Northern lights over mountains and meadows in Iceland is a stunning, lifetime experience. The best time to watch the display is during winter, at night. It’s better to watch the display during cold nights because that’s when the sky is clear, between October and March. It’s better to watch them against the backdrop of beaches, lava fields and glaciers.
The Northern lights against mountains and glaciers provide the perfect setting for awesome photos. When you travel to Iceland, this should be on your must-watch list so make sure you don’t skip it. I also would recommend you pick up a nice camera to ensure you can capture this amazing once in a lifetime view.
Highlands of Iceland Review
The Highlands of Iceland are largely uninhabited with extreme cold during winter nights. However there are facilities to take you there by jeep. Here’s where you get a striking glimpse of lava fields, deserts, volcanoes and lakes. The volcanic areas – Eldhraun and Askja – are not accessible all year around due to extreme weather conditions. The Hveravellir area offers superb scenic views with wildlife. Depending on your preferences there are quite a few things to experience there. Especially if you are adventurous. You could swim in warm pools, take rides on Icelandic horses and hike along the trails of mountains or lava fields.
Blue Lagoon of Iceland Review
This is a geothermal spa location where the silica- and sulfur-rich waters make for ideal bathing to cure skin diseases. The water in pools is replaced every 2 days. Visitors are supposed to follow Iceland’s strict hygiene standards to have a good time. This is not your typical spa experience. It provides a desolate place surrounded by lava and blue water.
Ice caves Iceland Review
The ice caves change colors from blue, black and white, depending on the time of the year. Here you get to see magnificent ice sculptures that are only open for a few months.
You get the most breathtaking views of ice sculptures during cooler months with cool shades of blue around you. Follow the instructions of your tour guide to make your trip as enjoyable and safe as possible.
People, Culture & Cuisine of Iceland Review
Icelandic people come across as warm and welcoming. However if you want to have a trouble-free trip, be sure to respect the traditions of Icelanders, such as not speaking loudly or being rude. Also do not complain about local customs or enter pools without taking a shower. Icelandic literature is well-known for sagas and poetry that praise special people and narrate events of previous centuries.
Ok now let’s get real and talk about FOOD! Icelandic cuisine comprises of lamb, fish, poultry and dairy. I personally am a huge fan of food tours. I can across this exciting opportunity right here. The Reykjavík Food Walk. This tour explores the city of Reykjavík through the local food on this mouth-watering walking tour. Learn about the history and culture of this beautiful city while dining on traditional Icelandic cuisine. This tour provides the ultimate Icelandic food and culture experience for true foodies.
I also must recommend the Game of Thrones Location Tour if you’re a fan of the mythical “Game of Thrones” series. Umm… isn’t everyone?!?! The Game of Thrones tour takes you to some of the filming locations in Iceland. Visit the stomping ground of the White Walkers and the trail of the Wildlings from North of the Wall at Þingvellir National Park. I won’t say no more and steal the show. If your interested please read more at “Visit Reykjavik Iceland“.
Wineries of Iceland Review
I always love to research and experience wineries in every country I visit and or write about. However Iceland is challenged in growing traditional wines. Iceland has an especially challenging climate and the environmental conditions are well beyond the temperate zone for growing vitus vinifera (or anything close.) I found a very interesting article describing the wines that are produced in Iceland. The Cellar Blog offers an in-depth relevant article to wine enthusiasts. Check out the The Cellar Blog.
Breweries of Iceland Review
There are several breweries you must visit in Iceland. Especially my favorite, The Brothers Brewery. The Brothers Brewery is renowned for their hand-crafted beer selections. The Brothers Brewery has an in-depth tour of the brewery. Which offers a fun lecture on the brewing process most of all that contains several beer samples. I highly recommend checking out The Brothers Brewery Website.
With its breathtaking natural beauty, local customs and cuisine, Iceland offers you ample opportunities to enjoy your trip and most of all build lasting memories. Check out some of our other favorite “Must See Destinations“. I promise you will enjoy them! We add new reviews weekly.
